Spec Work: Cards Against Humanity Expansion Pack Seven
This spec work was created for a theoretical social media campaign to tell fans of Cards Against Humanity that the company is releasing an official Expansion Pack Seven.
When Cards Against Humanity was in its infancy, the company produced booster packs of approximately one hundred cards. This included a number of blank cards that players could fill in with their own horrible images and ideas. You could also buy decks of blank cards called 'Your Shit Jokes'.
However, as the game grew more popular, they have reverted to larger boxes of small, select, niche expansion packs, like the Nerd Pack, which contains the Sci-Fi Pack, World Wide Web Pack, Fantasy Pack, and four others.
This spec work goes back to the game's roots, with smaller packs with a wider scope of horrible images that would catch players off guard.
This spec work includes an ad for Instagram, utilising the simple monochromatic theme of the cards, and uses pre-existing cards from the game to curate the ad's design with one new card, telling consumers that there is a new expansion pack coming out.
It also includes a mock-up of the box's front and back, with four sample cards: "The Women's Prize For Fiction", "An A.I. chatbot having an existential crisis", "A global fucking pandemic" and "Johnny Vegas' cohabitation with a sock puppet monkey", an image I refer to on the back of the box, which features the lighthearted and colloquial tone present in previous Cards Against Humanity boxes.
